About Kohenet

D’vora K’lilah has recieved smicha as Kohenet, or Priestess.  She has chosen to be called Qadesha, the name for priestess in ancient biblical and Ugaritic writings.  This is a position of spiritual leadership within Jewish practice. Jewish spiritual and cultural history is more expansive than is generally accepted in contemporary Judaism, especially by those in the post-exilic European-influenced rabbinic traditions.  Kohenet encompasses the history and practices of Jewish women’s spiritual power and leadership as it has manifested since ancient times.  We study both traditional text and unconventional ways of knowing.  We find ways to honor the Divine Feminine because as women we believe an embodied spiritual practice is important both for us and for the Earth.
